"Kachele" Primary School Building Project

GOALS:

We have made our first major milestone! The Kondwa Children"s Foundation has raised $30,000 towards our $150,000 building costs goals, enough to build the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade classrooms! Construction should being early 2008!

We still need $120,000 for the other classrooms plus the yearly operating costs once the new school is open in 2009.

Project Description:

This project is an extension of the excellent program currently in place for younger orphans at Kondwa Day Center.

The land for the new primary school,
purchased with help from private donors.

Young children attending Kondwa Day Centre for orphans, receive basic pre-school level instruction and two meals per day. When they graduate from the center, they are dispersed among several local primary schools.

Unfortunately, without the direct supervision of committed, responsible adults, many of these children slip through the cracks. Much of the stability they gain at the day center is lost as they age.

So far, approximately 250 children have “graduated” from the center. The new primary school will allow these children to continue receiving education, nutrition, and counseling from this excellent facility as they grow older.

The primary school will be overseen by the same director, Angela Malik, and will eventually have classes for grades 1-7. Our new school even has a name! Angela has christened it "Kachele", named after a kind of fig tree. Kachele’s provides cool shade to people, just as the school will provide a respite for the children.
